This is more than breakfast — it’s an Ayurvedic hug in a bowl.
🍐 Recipe: Vata Teff Porridge with Ghee, Maple & Stewed Pears
Serves: 2
Ingredients
For the Porridge:
1 cup teff grain (whole)
3 cups water or milk of choice (almond, oat, or whole dairy if tolerated)
1–2 tbsp ghee
2–3 tbsp pure maple syrup (to taste)
1 tsp ground cardamom
Pinch of mineral salt
For the Stewed Pears:
2 ripe pears, peeled, cored, diced
½ cup water
1 tbsp maple syrup (or raw honey, added after cooking)
½ tsp ground cardamom
½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
1. Stew the Pears
In a small saucepan, combine pears, water, cardamom, and maple syrup.
Simmer over low heat for 8–10 minutes until the pears are tender and syrupy. Keep warm.
2. Cook the Teff
Rinse teff in a fine mesh strainer.
Bring water (or milk) and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan.
Add teff, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally until creamy.
3. Finish & Serve
Stir in ghee, maple syrup, and cardamom.
Spoon into bowls, top with warm stewed pears, and drizzle with their cooking liquid.
Optional: add a sprinkle of chopped soaked nuts or extra spice on top.
🌿 Ayurvedic Benefits
Teff — grounding, mineral-rich, and warming for Vata.
Ghee — deeply lubricating for dry tissues and calming for the nervous system.
Cardamom — enhances digestion without adding heat.
Pears — sweet and moist, balancing Vata’s dryness.
✨ Try making this porridge your morning ritual — take a deep breath, savor each spoonful, and let the grounding warmth bring you back into balance.
